FE REPORT | Tuesday, 2 August 2022
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in two separate drives on Monday realised Tk1.4 million in fine from 59 businesses in 36 kitchen markets across the country and the capital.
A total of 36 DNCRP officials in cooperation with law enforcing agency personnel and representatives of the district units of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and district chambers penalised the businesses for depriving consumers of their rights in various ways.
The DNCRP also carried out a drive against Hua Thai Tiles in Gazipur for manufacturing tiles without renewing its license.
A team of DNCRP led by Assistant Director Md Abdul Jabbar Mandal fined the business entity Tk0.2 million.
The team asked the managing director and proprietor of Hua Thai Tiles to appear at its office to explain as to why legal measures should not be taken against the business entity.
The DNCRP provided 25 per cent (Tk 500) of fined money to a consumer upon his complaint on the day.
The DNCRP carries out drives against errant business entities, profit-monger traders and hoarders under the Consumer Rights Protection Act -2009.
Apart from regular market monitoring activities, DNCRP officials regularly distribute leaflets and pamphlets for creating public or consumer awareness about their rights.
