6 BNP men held in Savar, 31 sent to jail in Khulna

Police arrested six BNP leaders, including Savar municipality mayor, from different areas in Savar upazila on the outskirts of Dhaka city on Sunday night. They arrested on charge of carrying out subversive activities in the area. Rasel Sheikh, assistant police super of Savar Model Police Station, said they arrested Refat along with Nazim in front of Refat’s house from the municipality area around 10pm. Later they arrested three other BNP activists from Tetuljhora and Bhakurta areas. Refat is accused in eight sabotage cases and he was on bail, added ASP. In Khulna, 31 BNP leaders and activists have been sent to Khulna district after they were produced before a Khulna court. Judge of the Metropolitan sessions judge’s court Mohammad Saidur Rahman passed the order in the afternoon. The court asked metropolitan BNP senior joint secretary Principal Tariqul Islam, Daulatpur Thana BNP general secretary Sirajul Haque Nannu, its joint secretary Murshid Kamal, organising secretary Sajjad Ahsan Totan, and thana unit BNP’s youth wing Jubo Dal general secretary Hafizur Rahman Pintu, among other defenders to be sent to jail after rejected their bail plea. Around 50 lawyers including Sardar Yunus, Gazi Abdul Bari, Golam Mawla and SR Faruque moved for the defenders bail plea, according to a news agency.
