Friday, 21 February 2014

At least six people received bullets as the activists of local Awami League and BNP engaged in a fierce clash over paying tributes to the language martyrs in Debidar town in Comilla district on Friday morning. Debidar upazila unit Awami League (AL) claimed that three of the injured – Saddam Hossain, Abu Hanif and Masud Rana – are their activists. They were admitted to the upazila health complex with bullet injuries. The rest were rushed to other hospitals and clinics in Comilla. Witnesses said AL and BNP activists locked horns after placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar in Debidar around 12:30am. Firearms were used in the clash that continued for more than one hour. Six people, including the trio, were hit by bullets during the clash. Police used clubs and fired teargas shells to control the situation, according to private TV channels.
