'Stranded Pakistanis' at Mirpur, Pallabi and Mohammadpur on Sunday took to the streets over violence in the ‘Bihari Camp’ at Kalshi that left at least 10 people dead. Police have filed six cases over Saturday’s violence. The protesters blocked roads in front of ‘Bihari’ camps at Mirpur’s Kalshi and ‘Geneva Camp’ at Mohammadpur since Sunday morning. The blockade disrupted traffic on the streets. The agitators pressed for several demands – immediate handover of the bodies to their relatives, release of the arrested and punishment for those responsible for the violence. The camp inmates started the protests around 10:30am, Police’s Pallabi zone Assistant Commissioner Md Kamal Hossain said. Ten people, including four women and two children, were killed in a clash at a camp of ‘stranded Pakistanis’ locally known as ‘Bihari camp’ at Pallabi on Saturday morning after the Fazr prayers. Locals said the clashes erupted among two groups of Urdu-speaking Muslims in the Bihari camp and local Bangalis over the illegal power supply to a nearby slum. Six cases including murder, vandalism, arson and looting were filed with the Pallabi police, SI Monira Akhtar said. Police filed two cases while camp inmates the remaining cases, according to a news agency.
