6 injured in Jessore gunfight

Six people, including three policemen, were injured in a gunfight between police and human traffickers in Churamonkati area in sadar upazila of Jessore district on Thursday night. Mir Shafin Mahmud, assistant police super of Jessore Police, said being tipped off that a group of human traffickers abducted truck driver Abdul Ajij from Mobarokpur village in Jhikargachha upazila around 8:30pm a team of police chased the gang and halted their car at Churamonkati Bazar around 11:30pm. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the human traffickers opened fired on them, prompting the police personnel to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving six people injured. Later, the injured were rushed to Jessore 25-bed hospital from where injured policemen were transferred to Jessore Police Lines Hospital. Police also seized the private car and recovered one shooter gun and 2rounds of bullet. They also rescued the abducted truck driver from the spot. Two separate cases were filed in this connection, according to a news agency.
