6 kg gold seized at Shahjalal: 1 arrested

A man was arrested with six kilograms of contraband gold at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Kurmitola in Dhaka on Sunday. The arrestee has been  identified as Md Iqbal, 32, hailing from Chittagong district. Iqbal returned from Dubai on a Qatar Airways flight around 3:00am, Umme Nahida Akhter, assistant commissioner of customs intelligence, said in the morning. A search revealed 50 gold bars weighing 5.83 kg on his body and bag, she said. The metal’s market value was estimated to be Tk 29 million. Both Dhaka and Chittagong airports have reported repeated gold hauls over the past several months, according to bdnews24.com.
