6 killed in road mishaps in 2 dists

MANIKGANJ, Dec 7 (UNB): Five people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents in sadar and Singair Upazilas Monday and Tuesday.
Police said two people died on the spot and four others were injured when a truck carrying them crashed into a roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering at Gobindol in Singair Upazila early this (Tuesday) morning.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Firoj and helper Baki Billah.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals of Manikganj and Dhaka.
In another road accident, three people were killed and 26 others injured in a bus-truck collision at Golra on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Sadar Upazila Monday midnight.
The deceased were-bus driver Mamun (40), truck driver Hannan (35) and a bus passenger Majnu Mia, (25).
Witnesses said the accident occurred when a Paturia-bound bus from Dhaka collided with a truck coming from opposite direction at midnight.
The injured were first rushed to sadar hospital.
Later, 21 of them were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Another report from Narayanganj adds : A man was killed and five others were injured as a bus hit a rickshaw at Dapa Shailkura in Fatullah Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain (26), a resident of Aliganj slum.
Police quoting witnesses said, the accident occurred when a Panchabati bound bus hit a rickshaw from behind, leaving a rickshaw passenger dead on the spot and injuring the rickshaw puller and four other people.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Local people seized the bus but the driver and helper managed to escape.
Traffic disrupted for 15 minutes as the agitated local people put barricade on Dhaka-Narayanganj road.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
