60 shanties gutted in Ctg slum fire

At least 60 shanties were gutted as a fire broke out at a slum in Amin Jute Mills area in Chittagong city on Sunday morning. Jasimuddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Chittagong Fire Service, said the fire originated from electric short circuit in a shanty at Shantinagar colony in the area around 3:30am and spread to the adjoining shanties. On information, three fire fighting units from Bayezid fire station rushed in and doused the flames after almost two hours of frantic efforts. However, no casualties were reported in the fire that also gutted some shops and a godown, according to UNB.
