60 villages marooned in Netrakona

Around 60 villages of three upazilas in Netrakona have been flooded due to heavy rainfall and increased water flow from the upstream, reports bdnews24.com.
The villages under 14 unions of Durgapur, Kalmakanda and Khaliajuri upazilas were flooded Tuesday.
More than 50,000 villagers are marooned and suffering from lack of drinking water.
Sylhet's Water Development Board (WDB) executive engineer Md Harunur Rashid told reporters that the water level in Somesshori River had increased due to heavy rainfall and increased water flow from Meghalaya in India.
"Around 30 villages under Gawkandia, Kullagara, Bakaljora, Jhanjail and Birishiri unions have been submerged."
Another 20 villages under Langura, Rangchati, Kharnai, Pogla, Barakapan and Kailati unions went under water as the water levels increased in the Ubdakhali River of Kalmakanda upazila.
Moreover, 10 villages under Chakua and Jagannathpur unions were also submerged as water increased in the Dhanu River of Khaliajuri upazila.
