6,000 houses for Sidr victims planned

KHULNA, Oct 27: The government has taken an initiative to build 6000 houses at a cost of Tk 0.75 billion for the people of Sidr and Aila affected areas.
The construction will start from next November under three projects.
Meanwhile, the Relief and Disaster Management Ministry has received the allocated fund from Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund (BCCRF) of Environment and Forest Ministry, source said.
Source said that one project is to construct houses at coastal area and another two projects will be implemented at embankment area. The public representatives will select the project site. The houses will be allocated among the affected people of Aila and Sidr according to government list.
The Relief and Disaster Management Ministry will make a policy to allocate the houses. In the policy, widows, poor freedom fighters and deceased family will be given priority. Source also said that the house will be built at 15 feet long and 10 feet wide without any partition wall according to advice of the Bangladesh House Building Research Institute.
