62pc people brought under coverage of electricity: Polok

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Sept 6: State Minister for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Junayed Ahmed Polok in an opinion exchanging meeting on Saturday said, 62 per cent people of the country are now getting electricity and so those who are blessed with the facility should use our solar energy properly to reduce misuse of electricity.
We can easily do this by keeping our windows open in the day, he added saying that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself tries to reduce the consumption of electricity at her office and home.
He said this while addressing as chief guest in the opinion exchanging meeting on 'Information and Communication Technology.' It was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj with the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangir Kabir in the chair.
Government officials, entrepreneurs of Union Information Service Centres (UISC), journalists, representatives from different educational institutions were present in the meeting.
The state minister said, the electricity coverage was only 45 per cent five years ago. During the last five years and nine months, this government has set up computer labs in 3,500 educational institutions and 25,000 multi media class rooms in order to produce IT-competent manpower.
During the open discussion, it was disclosed that eight districts including Chapainawabganj have been still without optical fiber connection. Narayanpur and Alatuli unions under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila have no electricity. Besides, problems like insufficient number of computers, slow internet network, want of tools and insufficient supply of electricity also came up in the meeting.
The state minister said, Chapainawabganj would be brought under optical fiber connection and the two unions would be provided with electricity under small grid system through solar panel.
