64 Jamaat-Shibir men among 87 held in 3 dists

Some 87 persons, including 64 Jamaat-Shibir men, were arrested from Chittagong, Sylhet and Jhenidah districts on various charges, reports UNB.
In Chittagong, police in a drive on Thursday night and Friday arrested 35 persons, including 22 Jamaat-Shibir men, from different areas of Satkania and Lohagarah Upazilas.
The Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in cases filed in connection with violence centring on the January 5 national election while the remaining people were wanted in various cases, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Satkania Circle, AKM Emran Bhuiyan.
In Jhenidah, 40 alleged leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, including 38 women members, were arrested from a house at Kaliganj Upazila headquarters Friday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj thana Anwar Hossain said on secret information that female activists of Jamaat were holding a secret meeting at the house of local Jamaat leader Abdur Sabur Khan to commit subversive acts, they raided the house and arrested them.
The OC said they also recovered leaflets, posters and books published by Jamaat from the spot.
In Sylhet, police arrested two Shibir leaders-Ziaul Hoque Zia and Kawser-from Topaban Khuliapara, adjacent to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Friday.
The two, also SUST students, were arrested for their suspected involvement in the attack on university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Uttam Kumar Das, said police.
