65 file nomination papers for Mirpur UP chairmen

KUSHTIA, May 18: A total of 65 nomination papers were filed for the post of chairmen of 11 union parishads in Mirpur Upazila in the district. According to sources 117 nomination papers were filed for the post of reserved seats and 430 for general councillors. At least 6 aspirants will contest for the post of Chairman in Bahalbaria Union parishad. They are BNP backed candidate Abbas Uddin, AL backed candidate Sydur Rahman, AL rebel candidates Touhidul Islam and Abdur Razzak, independent candidates Sultan Sayen Zaman and Saiful Islam. BNP backed candidate Masudur Rahman, and the rebel candidates of BNP are Monirul Islam, Ariful Islam and Alamgir Hossain while AL backed candidate Abdul Hannan will contest election in Tabaria union parishad. J.S.D backed candidate and sitting chairman of Baraupara Union Parishad Sydur Rahman, AL backed aspirant Md Mominul Haque, BNP backed aspirant Robiul Islam will contest in the election. AL backed aspirant and sitting chairman of Fulbaria Union parishad Ataur Rahman Ali, rebel candidate Alhaj Abdus Salam, BNP backed aspirant Khandakar Tipu Sultan, Jamaat backed candidate Abdur Razzak will vie for UP election. Rafiqul Islam of Jamaat-e-Islami, Anwarul Islam of ruling AL, Abdur Rouf of AL rebel, Billal Hossain of BNP and Rason Ali (independent) will take part in the election of Amla union parishad. The sitting chairman and local BNP leader Abdul Haque, Quamrul Arefin of AL, rebel candidates of AL Shamsul Arefin, Robiul Haque and BNP rebel candidate Mosharaf Hossain alias Musa will contest in the election of Sadarpur Union Parishad for the post of Chairman. The sitting chairman and local leader of opposition BNP in Chautian Union Parishad Ansar Ali, Shajahan Ali of Jamaat, Jasim Uddin Biswas of ruling AL, AL rebel candidate Abdur Rashid, BNP rebel candidate Aser Ali and Mizanur Rahman Kanu, Jamal Uddin of Jatiya Party, and independent candidate Nasrullah will vie for the post of chairman. The sitting chairman and local BNP leader of Poradah Union parishad Omar Faruqe Kuddus, AL backed Anwaruzaman Biswas, AL rebel candidate Anisuzaman Biswas Raju and Asaduzzaman, independent candidates Fazlur Rahman, Abdur Bari Mondol and BNP rebel aspirant Mehedi Hasan Palash will contest in the election. Mokbul Hossain of JP, Jahiruddin of Jamaat, Shamsul Alam of BNP and Abdul Hannan of ruling AL will vie for the post of chairman of Kursha Union parishad. The sitting chairman and local leader of ruling AL Abul Quasim, AL rebel candidate Alamgir Hossain, independent candidates Rezaul Islam Banu, Nur Al-Amin Bulbul and Badar Uddin and BNP backed aspirant Helal Uddin will contest in the election of Malihat Union Parishad. The sitting chairman and local AL leader Moshiur Rahman, AL rebel candidate Hasan Ali, Rafiqul Islam Babu of Juba Awami League, Ahmed Ali of BNP, independent candidates Ruhul Amin, Lutfor Rahman Robjel Hossain and former UP chairman Mofizuddin will take part in the election of Ambaria Union Parishad. The election will be held in different union parishads on May 31 this year. SL protests news Another message adds: A press conference was held at Kushtia Press Club in the afternoon under the banner of Shechhasebak League, front organisation of ruling Awami League, protesting against a news item that was published in a national newspaper Wednesday. President Akteruzzaman Labu, and the General Secretary Md Sazzad Hossain Sabuj of SL, Kushtia district unit, President of Shopowners' Association of Kushtia unit Parvez Mazumadar, General Secretary Mukbul Hossain and the General Secretary of Krishak League of Kushtia district unit Liaquat Ali were present in the press conference. The general secretary of SL Md Sazzad Hossain Sabuj read out a statement in the conference. 3 Quality education for national dev stressed RANGPUR, May 18 (BSS): Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Ministry Anisul Islam Mandal here Tuesday stressed ensuring a time befitting quality education at all levels to attain sustainable national developments. He urged the Madrasah teachers for working with dedication and professional commitments to disseminate modern knowledge and education to their students to make them worthy citizens for the twenty first century in building a developed national. Anisul Islam Mandal was addressing a views exchange meeting on improving standard of education at Zamubari Dakhil Madrasa in Badarganj Upazila as the chief guest. Founder of the institution and Gaibandha District Education Officer (DEO) Abdus Sobhan chaired the meeting and all teachers and students of the madrasah, officials, elite, local politicians attended. Deputy Director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Department of Rangpur Region Chinmoy Baroi, Rangpur DEO Shafikul Islam and President of Badarganj Upazila unit of Jatiya Party Prof Mofazzal Hossain Sarder attended as the special guests. At the end of the meeting, the chief guest distributed prizes among the brilliant students of the madrasah for their excellent results.
