A total of 65 power plants were set up in the last 5-and-half-year increasing the country’s power generation capacity by 5,091 megawatts (MW). ‘The government has set up a total of 65 power plants from January 2009 to August 2014 to ease the country’s power crisis,’ State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told parliament in reply to a starred question from Awami League MP Suhrab Uddin (Kishoreganj-2). ‘Besides, the government imports 500MW power a day from India,’ he told the House, according to a news agency.
