67th death anniv of Major Gani today

The 67th death anniversary of Major Abdul Gani, the founder of the East Bengal Regiment, will be celebrated today (Monday).
To commemorate this occasion, a doa mahfil will be held at RAOWA Club after Maghrib prayers today.
Additionally, the army will pay tribute to his grave at Cumilla Cantonment in the morning, as stated in a press release.
Abdul Gani was born in Nagaish village of Brahmanpara in Cumilla on December 1, 1919. He passed the Entrance Examinations in Khulna and enrolled at Islamia College.
He graduated from Kolkata Islamia College in 1940 and joined the British Indian Army in 1941 during the Second World War.
He was commissioned as a lieutenant and fought in the Burma sector. Following the partition of India, he was promoted to the rank of captain in 1948.
He proposed a separate regiment for the Muslim Bengalis, which was established in 1948.
He earned the nickname 'Tiger Gani' for his bravery.
On November 11, 1957, he passed away in Berlin.
