6th UN Global Compact Local Network Exchange Programme ends

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Local Network Exchange Programme 2014 organised by CSR Centre as the Global Compact Network Bangladesh Focal Point concluded in the city on Tuesday, said a statement.
The three-day programme was sponsored by Mutual Trust Bank Limited.
The first day programme was chaired by UNGC Local Network Bangladesh Steering Committee Chair Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank.
Representative of GC Network Bangladesh Farooq Sobhan, Head of Local Networks United Nations Global Compact Walid Nagi, MD & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Anis A. Khan, Founder Hathay Bunano (GC Network Bangladesh Steering Committee Member) Samantha Morshed were present at the meeting as panelists.
Global Compact Local Network representatives from India, Malaysia, Myanmar and Turkey and UNGC Headquarters New York were also present on the occasion.
Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Yasmin Sultana and Joint Secretary (IO) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Khandoker Mostan Hossain took part in the second day session.
In the openning remarks, CEO of CSR Centre Shahmin S Zaman welcomed all the participants and distinguished guests at the programme.
SK Sur Chowdhury mentioned 47 green products have also been developed by the banking sector of Bangladesh.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) whether in private, public or development sector in any nation is essential to deal with the post MDG agenda to achieve sustainable development goals.
The UN Global Compact, also known as the Global Compact or UNGC, is a United Nations global initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies as CSR. With approximately 101 established and emerging networks around the world, Global Compact Local Network serves as an essential role in rooting the Global Compact within national contexts and advancing local priorities and needs.
