7 AL leaders face wealth probe

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to begin an enquiry into the wealth statements of some ruling party candidates of the 10th National Election including three former ministers. "The commission has appointed investigation officers to probe the wealth statements including the affidavits of Awami League candidates,” ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said. He said the probe starts from Wednesday. The ACC will look into the wealth statements of former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque, former state ministers Abdul Mannan Khan and Mahbubur Rahman, standing MPs Abdur Rahman Badi, Enamul Haque, Aslamul Haque and ex-MP Abdul Zabbar. Seven ACC Deputy Directors have been appointed as investigation officers to conduct the probe, said Bhattacharya. ACC Deputy Director Mirza Jahidul Alam will look into the ex-health minister's wealth, while Deputy Director Sheikh Nasir Uddin will probe former state minister for public works Abdul Mannan Khan. Deputy Director Khairul Huda has been appointed to inquire into former water resources state minister Mahbubur Rahman's wealth. Dhaka-14 MP Aslamul Haque's wealth information will be examined by Deputy Director Sheikh Fayez Alam. ACC Deputy Director Ahsan Ali has been asked to probe Cox's Bazaar MP Abdur Rahman Badi's wealth statements. Rajshahi MP Enamul Haque's probe will be done by Deputy Director Syed Tahsin Ali, while Deputy Director Mahmudur Rahman has been appointed to inquire into ex-MP Abdul Zabbar’s statement, according to a news agency.
