7 BNP leaders get bail in Sirajganj train case

The High Court has approved bail for five central leaders and two other leaders of the main opposition party BNP in a case, filed following the Sirajganj incident in which six people were crushed under a train, reports bdnews24.com.
A High Court bench of justices Shamim Hasnain and Mohammad Rezaul Hasan Sunday granted the six-month intermittent bail in advance for ASM Hannan Shah, Nazrul Islam Khan, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Amanullah Aman.
The court also granted bail to Sultan Salauddin Tuku, president of BNP student wing Chhatra Dal and the wing's general secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim in the case.
Tthe accused appeared before the court Sunday and appealed for bail separately.
Supreme Court Bar Association president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain represented the petitioners in the court.
On Oct 11, six people died when they were crushed under the wheels of a train, beside the rally of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Sirajganj.
Angry mob also set the train on fire and severely beat up the driver and a guard.
The incident allegedly led some other untoward incidents, including looting, causing a loss worth over Tk 230 million.
A case was filed on the same day accusing the seven leaders.
