7 DB men suspended in Comilla

COMILLA, Mar 27 (UNB): Seven members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have been suspended on charge of crossing Bangladesh border on Thursday.
The suspended policemen were identified as sub-inspector (SI) Mahbubur Rahman, two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) -- Alamgir Hossain and Sabuj Mia, and four constables-- Tapash, Bikash, Selim and Anwar.
Quoting locals, police said the seven DB policemen conducted a drive in Ashabari bordering area of Brahmanpara upazila of the district around 5:30 am on Wednesday.
At one stage, the DB members swooped on a house at Rahimpur, Sipahijala area in Indian territory mistakenly.
Later, a group of drug peddlers encircled them and attacked them.
On information, members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) rushed in and arrested four of them while three others managed to flee the scene.
The BSF returned the DB policemen --ASIs Sabuj and Alamgir and constables Selim and Tapos--through Akhaura bordering area on Wednesday midnight.
AKM Manjur Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Comilla DB police, said the seven policemen were suspended for illegally entering the Indian territory.
