Saturday, 15 March 2014

At least seven people, including three with bullet, were injured in a clash between law enforcers and supporters of a ruling Awami League-backed upazila chairman candidate at Kashua village in Chandnaish upazila on Saturday. Local sources said supporters of AL-supported candidate Abul Qashem in the polls to Chandnaish upazila parishad swooped on Kashua High School polling centre around 1 pm to snatch ballot boxes. Resisted by on-duty police, the attackers locked in the clash with the law enforcers, leaving 7 people injured. Police fired 30 rounds of bullet to bring the situation under control. Following the incident, voting at the centre remained suspended for 45 minutes from 1:15 pm. Presiding officer of the centre Saidul Islam confirmed the incident but could not say who attacked the centre, according to UNB.
