7 injured in clash on UZ polls campaign

At least seven people were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates at Araishidha village at Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria on Saturday. Witnesses said an altercation ensued between the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate in the upazila (UZ) election Hanif Munshi and Awami League’s rebel chairman candidate Anisur Rahman over polls campaign at Araishidha around 2:30 am. At one stage, both groups, equipped with firearms, attacked each other, leaving seven people injured, some of them critically. They exchanged several rounds of bullet during the hour-long fight. Of the injured, three people were sent to a hospital in Dhaka while four others were admitted to Bajitpur Medical College Hospital, according to UNB.
