7 JMB militants get life term imprisonment

RAJSHAHI, Mar 22 (UNB): A court here Sunday sentenced seven Jama'tul Mujaheedin, Bangladesh (JMB) militants to life term imprisonment in the country's serial bomb blasts.
Rajshahi Divisional Special Judge Mohammad Motajidur Rahman also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The convicts are: Tariqul Islam, Shafiullah, Abu Isa, Hasan Ali, Jahangir Alam, Mohammad Arif and Enamul Haque Moni. All the convicts, but Moni, were present in the dock.
According to the prosecution, these seven activists of JMB were involved in blasting bombs near Kajla Gate in Rajshahi University and in front of the main gate of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on August 17, 2005.
Following the explosion, Motihar thana SI Khoten Ali filed a case with the local police station.
After examining the witnesses and records, the judge handed down the verdict.
