7 killed as two buses collide in Narsingdi

At least seven people were killed and 60 others injured as two buses caught fire after a collision at Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi on Wednesday. Two of the deceased were identified as Swarna Akther, 17, an HSC student of Siddheshwari Girls’ College and Majnu Miah, 75, of Raipura Upazila of the district. The accident took place on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Amtala in the afternoon when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Sohagh Paribahan’ from Brahmanbaria collided with a Bhairab-bound bus of ‘Meghaloy Paribahan’ from Dhaka. Police said the two vehicles burst into flame, leaving three people dead on the spot and 60 others injured. The injured were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital where four of people succumbed to their burn injuries. Of the injured, 30 people, including four with burn injuries, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated, according to BSS.
