7 Pak cement companies receive temp permit for export to India

Thursday, 2 August 2007

Islamabad, Aug 1 (PTI): Seven Pakistani companies yesterday received temporary permits to export cement to India as manufacturers in the country gear up to bag chunks of orders from its neighbour with the ongoing Secretary level talks in New Delhi aiming to increase bilateral trade.
The permits were granted after officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) visited the cement plants and tested samples to evaluate the quality of the product.
A senior Indian diplomat told PTI earlier that once evaluation is done and the products meet the standards, permits would be granted for imports from the factories.
Pakistan is hopeful of securing India's nod for major export of cement during the current round of trade talks, with officials in Islamabad identifying cement as one of the commodities which the country could export to its neighbour in large quantities to reduce trade deficit.
