Tuesday, 21 January 2014

A seven-storey building has tilted dangerously in Chittagong’s Muradpur after developing cracks overnight. The Fire Service has asked the building inmates to vacate their apartments soonest to avoid a possible disaster. They say the building is not very old. The 'RF Niketan' building started to tilt after many portions of it including pillars, floors and walls developed crack on Monday night, said Chittagong Fire Service Office’s Deputy Assistant Director Jasim Uddin. A rescue team of fire service visited the area late on Monday night. There are 24 families in the building, said the fire service official. The fire service team is checking whether the soil excavation nearby cause the building to tilt, according to a news agency.
