7 teachers yet to submit thesis to UGC despite receiving grants

Despite taking money in time, seven teachers of different public universities have not yet submitted their research thesis to the University Grants Commission (UGC) even a year after the stipulated time.
UGC sources said, some 11 teachers of public universities were provided with handsome grants to carry out research on different topics of arts and humanities under 2004-05 academic year.
Of them, seven teachers neither presented their research thesis in time nor made any contact with the UGC during the last two years.
M Matiur Rahman of Philosophy Department of Dhaka University (DU) was assigned to conduct research on 'Bangalees' Philosophical Thoughts on Expatriate Newspapers' with half payment of the total Tk 77,000.
He was scheduled to submit his half annual research report and estimate of expenses in January 2005. But he did not submit either his half annual report or estimate of expenses within the fixed time.
Abul Mansur Mohammad Abu Musa of Modern Language Institute of DU received half of the total Tk 82,000 for conducting research on 'Map of Bengali Words'.
He was also supposed to submit his report and estimate to the UGC at the same time. But he did not submit any of these.
The other five teachers are - M Rejaul Islam of Bengali Department of Chittagong University, Nurul Islam of History Department of Jahangirnagar University, and Md Iqbal Hossain, AKM Nurul Islam and Abdul Latif of Islamic University.
Recently, UGC has issued final notices to these seven teachers of research bankruptcy asking them to inform the commission of their work progress and reckoning of government money within one month after receiving the notices.
Earlier, UGC also served show cause notices to the seven teachers with a time span of one month, but they did not response to the notices.
When contacted, M Matiur Rahman said, he is taking some excess time to submit his research thesis, as he is to go to Kolkata for completing the work. He was optimistic of submitting his report by December.
