A mobile court Tuesday sealed off seven warehouses of Euroasia, a chemical marketing company, and a factory of galvanised iron wire in the capital's Chawkbazar for illegally running the business at the residential area.
Police said the mobile team, led by Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution executive magistrate Mohammad Al Amin, also slapped fine worth Tk 0.3 million on the factory authorities for not having official approval as well as minimum fire safety measures.
Magistrate Al Amin said they seized a large quantity of hazardous chemicals from the warehouses of Euroasia Trading Chemical Company worth Tk 30 million.
"The chemicals we seized from the godowns are dangerous and highly inflammable, which can cause fire like the Nimtoli incident," the BSTI magistrate said.
At least 119 people were killed and scores injured in Thursday's devastating Nimtoli fire.
"We also issued arrest of warrant against its owner Hazi Bulbul as he illegally stored the dangerous chemicals in the area," Mr. Amin said, adding the crackdown against illegal chemical factory owners will be carried out in all city areas.
