7069 people, cos whiten Tk 6.68b in Ctg, pay Tk 933.2m as tax

CHITTAGONG, Oct 1 (UNB): Some 7,069 people whitened their undisclosed income of Tk 6.68 billion (668 crore) in Chittagong during the four-month tax amnesty that ended Sunday (September 30).
Meanwhile, a total of Tk 936.2 million (93.62 crore) was deposited to the government exchequer as tax against the whitened money from three tax zones of the district, a National Board of Revenue (NBR) official here said.
Earlier, on June 4 this year, the NBR announced the amnesty providing the scope to whiten undisclosed money earned through legal means by paying 5 percent additional tax for two months till July 31.
Later, NBR extended the deadline of the amnesty by another two months to September 30 in response to requests from different quarters.
During the first timeline till July 31, some 1,231 people whitened Tk 187 crore by paying Tk 33.33 crore as tax to the national exchequer.
Another 5,838 people and companies whitened around Tk 481 crore paying over Tk 60 crore as tax by the extended timeline of September 30.
