Sunday, 30 December 2007

Seventy-one socio-cultural and professional organisations have signed a joint declaration to press for trial of 'war criminals', a veteran freedom fighter said Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.
"War criminals of 1971 must be tried in a special tribunal," said retired air vice marshal AK Khandker, deputy commander-in-chief of the Liberation War Armed Forces.
"It is the responsibility of the government to try the war criminals. Our movement will continue unless they are tried," Khandker, also president of the Sector Commanders Forum, said at a press briefing at the Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs.
He hailed the media for its role in garnering public support for trying the 'war criminals'.
Prof Kabir Chowdhury, retired judge KM Sobhan and retired major general KM Shafiullah also spoke at the conference.
