72-hour ultimatum given to resolve Naogaon-Bogra transport dispute

NAOGAON, Sept 8: Zila Paribahan Malik- Sramik Oikkyo Parishad in Naogaon has threatened to stop vehicular movement on all the routes from the district if the month-long dispute between the transport bodies of Naogaon and Bogra was not settled within the next 72 hours.
They issued the ultimatum at a meeting held at the office of district Motor Workers' Union on Monday night at 8:00pm.
The meeting, chaired by president of Motor Workers' Union Omar Faruk, also decided to stop vehicular movement on the Naogaon-Bogra road for an unspecified time from Tuesday.
In his speech, Omar Faruk said, "We have been compelled to call such a strike as the local administration of the two districts, Central Workers' Federation and Regional Motor Workers' Union have not taken initiatives for smooth movement of the vehicles bound for other districts from Naogaon through roadways among Bogra city."
We have given a 72-hour ultimatum to the authorities concerned for resolving the matter. We would besiege the offices of the District Administrator and Superintendent of Police (SP) if our demands are not met within the given period, he warned.
Speakers at the meeting alleged that the vehicular movement via Bogra remained halted since first week of the August for frigidity of the authorities and obduracy of Bogra Motor Workers' Union.
They demanded for taking immediate action to resume the transport movement along the route.
President of Zila Road Transport Owners' Group Shahidul Islam, its general secretary Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of Truck Owners' Association Ahsan Habib, general secretary of Worker's Union DM Lenin, among others, addressed the meeting.
It is noted that the vehicular movement of Naogaon via Bogra was halted on August 3 this year due to a conflict between Motor Workers' Unions of the two districts.
The conflict arose when the authorities of Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan, an transportation company of Bogra, forced to stop travel of a bus owned by Naogaon Motor Workers' Union, in Dhaka. ritushar.ru@gmail.com
