7,500 MTs additional fish being produced in country: Sayedul

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque on Monday informed the Jatiya Sangsad that around 7,500 metric tons additional fishes are being produced yearly as a result of releasing nearly 3,500 metric tons fish fries in the last five years. The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took Beel Nurture Programme through the Department of Fisheries (DOF) for the first time in the country, he said while replying to a question of treasury bench member Amina Ahmed. He said 534 sanctuaries were established through various development projects in different rivers and inland open water bodies. Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute has innovated technology of artificial breeding and farming of 18 extinct species of sweet water fish. The organisations are Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard, police, RAB, Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), district and Upazila administration and DOF, according to BSS.
