7.5m bales jute produced in FY15

Textile and Jute Minister Mohammad Emaz Uddin Pramanik has said a total of 7.5 million bales of jute has been produced in the country in the current (2014-2015) fiscal year. Although that is slightly more than the 7.4 million bales (1 bale=181 kilogram) produced in the 2013-2014 fiscal, it is slightly down on the 7.6 million bales produced in the 2012-2013 fiscal. Before that, in both the 2011-2012 and 2010-2011 fiscals, jute production topped 7.8 million bales. He said there are some 194,000 people employed in the country’s 209 jute factories, according to a news agency.
