7th World Autism Awareness Day observed
Wednesday, 2 April 2014
The 7th World Autism Awareness Day was observed in the country Wednesday as elsewhere across the globe.
The theme of this year’s day was: ‘We all are for increasing awareness on autism’.
According to the United Nations, autism is a lifelong developmental disability that manifests itself during the first three years of life. The rate of autism in all regions of the world is high and it has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies, according to a news agency.
Various organisations, including the Social Welfare Ministry, observed the day with elaborate programmes that include rallies, discussions and cultural function.
The programmes began in the morning with a discussion and cultural function at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke as the chief guest.
