8 dead as ex-MP's hotel set on fire in Jashore

An angry crowd set fire to Jabir International Residential Hotel in Jashore after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation on Monday, leaving 8 people dead and 84 injured.
Among the deceased are Chaion, 20, and Sejan Hossain, 19. The identities of the other victims are not yet known.
Jashore District Awami League General Secretary and former member of parliament Shaheen Chakladar is the owner of the hotel.
Haroon Rashid, superintendent of Jashore General Hospital, confirmed that 24 of the injured are in critical condition. He said most of the dead and injured were students.
On Monday afternoon, thousands of students gathered at Chitra Mor, Chaurasta Mor and Daratana Mor in Jashore town, celebrating what they perceived as a victory.
Later in the afternoon, some individuals set fire to Jabir International Residential Hotel, vandalising its furniture.
They also targeted the residence of Jashore-3 MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed and set it on fire, as well as vandalising the district Awami League office.
Jashore Kotwali police station OC A Razzak said the town was in a state of chaos. Many leaders from Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League fled their homes.
In addition, miscreants vandalised the homes of Sharsha Upazila Vice Chairman A Rahim Sardar and Swachhasebak League President Abul Hossain.
They also attacked the Awami League office in Benapole, vandalised Jubo League President Aheduzzaman's house and set fire to the Wood Sun restaurant.
