8-hr Chhatra Sena hartal today

Sunday, 31 August 2014

Islami Chhatra Sena, the student wing of the Islamic Front Bangladesh called on Saturday an eight-hour countrywide hartal for Sunday (today) demanding arrest of the killers of Front leader and 'Channel i' Islamic programme presenter Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui, reports BSS.
President of Islami Chhatra Sena Nurul Haq Chisti announced the hartal progamme at a press conference at the party's office in the city in the afternoon.
Unidentified miscreants slaughtered the 'Channel i' programme presenter at his residence in the city's East Razabazar area on Wednesday night.
He was also a presidium member of the Islamic Front, connected with the Ahle Sunnat-al-Jamaat, and Khatib of the High Court Mazar mosque.
FE report adds: The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) called upon the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and its front organisation Chhatra Sena on Saturday to withdraw Sunday's hartal for the sake of the country's overall economy.
The apex trade body in a statement issued on the day said a favourable trade and investment climate was now prevailing in the country. And hartals or other negative activities would cast a shadow on the country's image and stall the foreign investment inflow.
"Hartals or other negative activities will tarnish the country's image and discourage foreign entrepreneurs to invest here," the statement said.
It said the foreign currency reserves, inward flow of remittances, foreign investments, imports and exports were showing positive signs in the country. The investors of Japan and China expressed their interest to invest here.
Faruqi was the international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and a presidium member of Bangladesh Islami Front.
The FBCCI, however, condemned the killing and prayed for salvation of the departed soul. It called upon the government to arrest the culprits immediately and bring them to book.
According to bdnews24.com, police arrested two people, Mahmuda Khatun, 43, and Shariful Islam, 35, from Narayanganj in connection with Faruqui's murder.
They were arrested on Saturday from Rupganj upazila's Murapara area, said police's Tejgaon Division's Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Wahidul Islam.
"They have been brought to Dhaka and are being questioned at the Detective Branch headquarters," the DMP official said.
According to the victim's family, a woman claiming to be an admirer of Faruqui had come to visit him on Wednesday, hours before he was killed.
Mahmuda Khatun has admitted going to Faruqui's home prior to the murder, said ADC Islam.
Faruqui was buried beside his parents at the family graveyard at Naotari Nawabganj village in Panchagarh's Boda Upazila in the morning.
BSS adds: The International Sufi Unity and Solidarity (SUFIS) demanded on Saturday intensified investigations to track down the killers of popular TV anchor Faruqui and expose them to justice.
