8 jhut godowns gutted in Gazipur

A fire gutted at least 8 tin-shed godowns of jhut (garment factory wastes) in Palli Biddyut area under Kaliakoir Upazila in Gazipur on Monday. Fire service sources said the fire broke out at about 4:30am in one of the 8 godowns (warehouse). It originated from electric short circuit, they said. Soon the fire engulfed the adjoining seven godowns. Being informed, six fire-fighting units from Joydebpur and Kaliakoir towns of Gazipur district, Savar EPZ in Dhaka and Mirzapur of Tangail, rushed in and tamed the blaze after 2-and-half-hour’s of hectic efforts. The extent of loss caused by the fire could not be around Tk 50 million, owners of the warehouses said, according to a news agency.
