8 JMB men held in city

A joint team of the Lawful Interception Cell (LIC) of the police headquarters and the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive arrested eight suspected members of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from the city’s Uttara area on Monday night. The arrestees were identified as Abu Talha Mohammad Fahim alias Pakhi, acting ameer of JMB, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of the Sylhet division unit of the organisation, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, in-charge of its  Mymensingh district unit, Mohammad Emdadul Haque, in-charge of Mymensingh town unit and Rafiq Ahmed, Mohammad Mostafa, Mohammad Safatullah and Mohammad Ali Ashraf Rajib. The joint team of the LIC of police headquarters and the DB conducted the drive and arrested them along with jihadi books and video contents from the area at night. Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the DB briefed about the drive at the DMP media centre. During primary interrogation, the arrested JMB members confessed that they were planning for an attack on important institutions, according to a news agency.
