8 killed in road accidents

GAIBANDHA, Apr 16 (UNB) : Six people were killed and 15 others injured when they fell from the rooftop of a speeding night coach at Tulshighat in Polashbari Upazila early Saturday. Four of the deceased were identified as Shahinur Rahman, Ronju Miah, Litu Miah and Sakib Ahmed. The identity of the two other deceased could not be known immediately. Police said the accident occurred at about 1:30am when the rooftop passengers of the over loaded Dhaka-bound night coach from Gaibandha town were hit by a tree, leaving Shahinur dead on the spot and 20 others injured. Of the injured Ronju, Litu and Sakib succumbed to their injuries at Polashbari Upazila Health Complex. Two other unidentified injured died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Eleven other injured were admitted to the same hospital. Another report from Sirajganj adds: A motorcyclist was killed when a truck ran over him in Bhuiyangati area on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Rayganj Upazila Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Mojnu (32), son of Azhar Ali of Basoria village in the upazila. Police said Mojnu was going to Tarash Upazila by a motorcycle at about 8:30am. The accident occurred when the truck ran over him in the area, leaving him dead on the spot. On information police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. Another report from Comilla adds : Two people were killed and 30 others injured in a road accident in Gomta area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina Upazila Friday night. One of the deceased was identified as Esahak (48), hailed from Chapapur village in Sadar Upazila. Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when the driver of a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Comilla lost control over the steering and the vehicle fell into a road side ditch at about 8:30pm, leaving two passengers dead and 30 others injured. Of the injured, 15 were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital and Chandina and Gouripur health complexes where condition of seven was stated to be critical. The bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. Another report from Mymensingh adds: A man was killed and 25 others were injured in a road mishap in Jorapukurpar area on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway in Nandail Upazila Friday noon. The deceased was identified as Emdadul (20), son of Tomiz Uddin of Dhorgaon village in the upazila. Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when the driver of a Kishoreganj-bound bus from Dhaka lost control over the steering and the vehicle overturned on the road, leaving Emdadul dead on the spot and 25 others injured. Of the injured, eight were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
