8 killed in road mishaps in Gazipur, Bogra

GAZIPUR, Nov 21 (UNB): Five people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on-collision between a pickup van and a human hauler on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Kodda in Sadar Upazila Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Manjuna (26), hailed from Netrakona and resident of Konabari in Gazipur, her husband Ruhul Amin (35), Shamim (22), Rafiq (22), and Raju (28) of Lalmonirhat district.
The police quoting witnesses said the accident occurred at about 6 am when the Joydevpur-bound human hauler from Chandra in Kaliakoir Upazila collided with the pickup van coming from opposite direction, leaving Manjuna died on the spot and 14 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Sadar hospital where Shamim, Rafiq, Ruhul Amin and Raju died later. Injured Oli (8), and Tanbir (6), sons of Ruhul Amin were shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Other injured were identified as Ashraful (33), and Saiful (26), of Kurigram, Shanta (25), Nasrin (26), Laili (24), Yasmin (20), Sahidul (30), and Jewel (22) of Gazipur.
The police seized the two vehicles.
Another report from Bogra adds: Three people were killed and another was injured as a bus plunged into the Korotoa river after breaking the railings of Mahastan Bridge on Bogra-Rangpur highway in Shibganj Upazila Saturday night.
Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The police said, the accident occurred at about 11 pm when the Rangpur-bound coach from Bogra plunged into the river as its driver lost control over the steering while overtaking another coach over the bridge, leaving the driver killed on the spot and three others injured.
The ill-fated coach was going to Rangpur to carry passengers from Rangpur town.
Of the injured two unidentified men died at the Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College while condition of another was stated to be critical.
