The bodies of eight newborns were found wrapped in a polythene bag floating in the Teesta River in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district on Tuesday, sending a shock wave in the area. Officer-in-charge of Dimla Police Station Abdul Ali Akand said locals spotted the big polythene bag at Kawnia Char point of the river in the morning and informed them. Later, the law enforcers rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the bag around 11:30am, he said. Each body was wrapped in a small poly bag and the eight bodies were stashed in the big bag as a whole, the OC added. Akand said the bodies might have been dumped into the river from a hospital either in Bangladesh or in India, according to a news agency.
