8 remanded again over RU teacher killing

A Rajshahi court on Monday placed 8 people on a fresh 1-day remand in connection with the murder of Rajshahi University teacher Prof AKM Shafiul Islam. Magistrate of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Sharmin Akhter passed the order when police produced them before her court following their 2-day remand. Those remanded afresh are Humayun Kabir, principal of Islamia College of Binodpur, Fazlul Haq, a teacher of the same college, Mosharraf Hossain, a village doctor of Chouddapai area, Jinnat Ali, Saifuddin, Rezaul Karim, Sagar and Arif. On Nov 19, the same court placed 11 people on a 2-day remand in connection with the murder. Police arrested 20 people on Nov 16, a day after Prof Shafiul’s killing. Of them, 11 were shown arrested and sent to jail on Nov 17. RU Registrar Eltajul Haq filed a case with Motihar Police Station after Prof Shafiul Islam was hacked to death by unknown assailants on Nov 15, according to a news agency.
