8 shanties gutted in city

At least eight shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out at Falunagar slum in the city’s Hazaribagh area early Tuesday. Fire service sources said the fire originated from a cigarette butt at a shanty in the area around 4:19 am and it soon engulfed adjoining other shanties. On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after half an hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people. The extent of losses from the fire could go up to Tk 50,000, added the sources, according to UNB.
