Monday, 31 August 2015
The body of a minor boy has been recovered from a canal in Kathalia Upazila in Jhalakathi district, three days after he had gone missing. The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan, son of Shahin Jamaddar, a third-grade student of 23 No Jorkhali Government Primary School. Police, hospital sources and locals said miscreants chopped the 8-year-old boy to death and dumped the body in Amua-Mathbari canal for yet unknown reason. The locals first saw the body, bearing multiple injury marks, floating in the Amua-Mathbari canal and called in the police. It was recovered around 11pm on Sunday, Kathalia police Inspector Md Jahid Hossain said. “The dead body has marks of blows from sharp weapons in the head and hand, and looks like he was murdered.” Hossain, quoting locals, said Mehedi went missing while returning from his grandfather’s house in Jorkhali on August 28 afternoon. Jamaddar had filed a general diary (GD) with the police on Saturday after he did not return. Hossain said they questioned Shahadat of Jorkhali and Rehana Begum, a resident of Mathbari Dauthkandi village. “Both of them have land disputes with Hasan’s family.” The body has been sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for autopsy, according to a news agency.
