80m mobile subscribers in country by 2014

The number of mobile subscribers in Bangladesh will hit 80 million by 2014, Canada-based IE Market Research Corporation (IEMR) said.
"3Q10 Bangladesh Mobile Operator Forecast, 2010-2014", a report by IEMR, a Canadian market intelligence and business strategy research and consulting firm said that Bangladesh's mobile subscribers will reach 80 million by the year 2014.
Regarding this, 3Q10 model forecasted that the number of mobile subscriber connections in Bangladesh would increase from 55 million in 2009 to approximately 80 million in 2014.
It also featured that Warid would have about 6.3 million mobile subscriber connections in 2014 and would take 8 per cent share by the time.
According to the report, a strong mobile subscriber growth continues in Bangladesh with +20.6 per cent industry average subscriber growth in first quarter of 2010, slightly down from 21.8 per cent in first quarter of 2009.
Subscriber growth rate at the largest mobile operator, GrameenPhone, was 13.5 per cent in 2010, down from 18.3 per cent in 2009.
Second largest Banglalink's subscriber growth rate was 31.2 per cent in 2010, up from 30.4 per cent in 2009.
Minutes of Use per subscriber (MoU/Sub) are declining -13.9 per cent industry average.
The operator-wise average MoU/Sub reached 267 minutes per month in 2010, down -13.9 per cent subscriber growth rate.
GrameenPhone saw its MoU/Sub decline from 327 minutes per month in 2009 to 288 minutes per month in 2010 while Banglalink's MoU/Sub was 233 minutes per month in 2010, down -16.2 per cent from 2009.
"GrameenPhone will maintain its leading position in Bangladesh's mobile market over the next five years with an expected subscriber base of 31 million connections in 2014," the report predicted.
The forecast also predicted, GrameenPhone's subscriber market share would remain at 39 per cent - 41 per cent over the next five years while market shares at Robi, Warid and Citycell would be approximately 19.7 per cent, 8.0 per cent and 4.1 per cent respectively in 2014.
Another FE report adds: The growth of mobile phone use in rural areas of the country would be doubled within the next two years, an official of a UN body has said.
Kazi Ali Reza, a high official of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), told the FE: The double growth would be possible if the networks of all mobile companies are available all over the country.
Meanwhile a UN report said the agriculture sector of Bangladesh has greatly improved among the least development countries (LDCs) of South Asia through using mobile networks.
Banglalink, the second largest mobile operator in Bangladesh, has launched an information-based helpline named 'Jigyasha 7676' for the farmers of Bangladesh.
Jigyasha 7676 offers help in providing information and advisory service to small farmers in Bangladesh so that they can produce agricultural goods by getting information.
The service is an outcome of joint collaboration with Katalyst, partners in business innovation in Bangladesh, while it saw need to improve the performance of Bangladeshi farmers.
