837 submit income tax returns

GAIBANDHA, Sept 20: A four-day long Income Tax Fair-2015 ended on Sunday here with the theme of "Sammriddhir Sonali Din, Ante Holey Aykor Din".
During the 4-day fair, a good number of persons opened their taxpayers' identification number (TIN) willingly to pay taxes in a bid to help the government, sources said.
837 tax payers who have the TINs submitted their income tax returns of Tk 2.503 million during the period, sources said adding that a booth of Sonali Bank was also set up to collect the cash from the tax payers.
Earlier, Whip of the Bangladesh Parliament and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally inaugurated the fair on Thursday as the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner M Abdus Samad and Police Super Ashraful Islam were present as the special guests.
The guests in their speeches underscored the need for encouraging the people to pay income tax spontaneously to strengthen the national economy.
In the function, Commissioner of Taxes, Bogra region, M Abdul Mazid formally handed over the 'Commissioner Award' to Assistant Commissioner of Taxes here Mohammad Ali on behalf of the NBR Chairman. He was awarded for being the best officer of taxes for collecting maximum income tax during the Income Tax Fair held in Gaibandha, Sirajganj, Joypurhat and Bogra districts' headquarters in 2014.
