8.3m jobs created in last 5 yrs: PM

Some 8.3 million employments were created in the last five years due to various pragmatic steps of her immediate past government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the Parliament on Wednesday. Citing statistics, she said that at present, each percentage of GDP growth creates about 0.25 million new jobs in the country. “As per available figures, some 6.3 million fresh internal jobs were created in the last four fiscal years from 2009-10 to 2012-13,” Sheikh Hasina said, replying to a starred question of treasury bench member Bazlul Haque Harun (Jhalakati-1) during the PM’s question-answer session. Besides, she said that due to coordinated efforts of the government, some 2.0 million Bangladeshi workers went abroad with job. “This means that overall 8.3 million new employments were created during the period.” The Prime Minister said that her government has a target to create 10.04 million new employments in five years beginning from 2010-11 fiscal year, which will help to a great extent to merge all of about 9.2 million newcomers in the job market, according to a news agency.
