83pc VoIP conducted by private operators

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique Wednesday at a seminar disclosed that the major part of the illegal call termination, commonly known as 'VoIP', is being conducted by the different private operators where the state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company
Limited (BTCL) has a little contribution, reports BSS.
"Contribution of BTCL for the illegal call termination is only 17 per cent while the remaining illicit use of VoIP is being carried out
by the different private operators," he added.
Referring to having 47,000 copies of printed documents, the minister said: "The people who have different kinds of operators and carriers they are involved with the illegal call termination in the country."
Underscoring the necessity of broadband connection across the country, Latif said: "We have announced war without equipment . We need to make the broadband connection in rural area so that the youth could earn money using internet living in village."
The minister rebuked the cellular phone operators due to their reluctance of spreading the broadband connection into the rural areas.
"The cellular phone operators do not expand broadband connection into the rural areas as possibility of profit is less there compared to the cities," he observed.
