88th day of \\\'blockade\\\' passes off \\\'peacefully\\\'

Saturday, 4 April 2015

FE Report
The BNP-led 20 party alliance did not announce new hartal programme this week too, and 88th day of its nationwide transport blockade passed off on Friday without any incidents of violence.
Earlier, the 20-party enforced eight consecutive spells of hartal along with the non-stop blockade on working days-from 6am Sunday to 6am Friday-from February 1 to March 25, only giving a 12-hour pause on March 10 for celebrating the victory of Bangladesh cricket team.
The alliance used to call a 72-hour hartal from Sunday every week, and then extend it by 48 hours more ending at 6.00am on Friday.
However, the alliance did not extend the hartal last week due to the Independence Day. They did not call hartal this week too like last week.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Sylhet unit will enforce a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district today (Saturday), protesting alleged police attack on its leaders and activists.
The shutdown was announced through a statement on Thursday night.
Police allegedly fired gunshots and charged baton on a procession, brought out by the organisation in Sylhet city on Thursday evening that left some 20 people, including district Swechchhasebak Dal joint convener Ajmal Hossain Rayhan, injured.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's city and district units extended their support to the hartal.
