9 die after inhaling toxic gas in Joypurhat, Ctg

JOYPURHAT, July 31 (UNB): Six people died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a septic tank at Zafarpur in Akkelpur upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Sajal, Shihab, Mukul, Shahin, Pritom and Ganesh Chandra. All of them were residents of the upazila.
Kiron Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, said a worker entered the under-construction septic tank around 9:30am.
After getting no response from him, five others entered tank one after the other and fell ill, he said.
Police and firefighters later recovered their bodies and sent them to a local hospital for autopsy.
Another report adds from Chattogram: At least three workers died and six others fell sick after inhaling poisonous gas while working at a shipbreaking yard in Sitalpur of Sitakuda upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Nantu Bepari, 24, son of Amjad Bepari, Mohammad Rusel, 25, son of Jafar Matabbar of Pirojpur, and Md Sobidul, 26, son of Abu Talebor of Kurigram.
