9 die as 2 buses crash on Eid day

Nine home-bound passengers died and many more were injured when two buses carrying them to separate locations met with accidents on Eid day. Md Ilias Sharif, Superintendant of Police, Noakhali, said ‘The driver of ‘Balaka Express’ bus lost control over the steering at Barkot under Joyag Union of Nokhali’s Somaimuri Upazila early Tuesday and the vehicle tumbled into a roadside ditch.’ Six including three from one family, died and 20 more were injured, SP Ilias said. The bus was heading for Lakshmipur’s Ramganj Upazil. Those who died were Selina Akhter, 30, her son Abu Sayed, 8, daughter Kohinoor Begum, 5, and ‘Khokan’. The two others are yet to be identified. In another accident, a ‘Bhola Transport’ bus, travelling from Chittagong slipped off the road and fell into a ditch around 6:30am Tuesday when its driver lost control at Charfashion’s Kortahat, said Charfashion Police SI Saiful. Three died and 25 injured, he said. One among the dead has been identified as ‘Salauddin’, according to bdnews24.com.
